Obituary for Alec Prokop

Cohoes Alec Prokop, - Alec Prokop, 95, of, Cohoes, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 10, 2018 embraced by his loving family at Albany Medical Center. Born in Cohoes, he was the son of the late Philip and Mary Barnovsky Prokopski and beloved husband of the late Mary Luczkowicz Prokop.

As a young man he was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corps in NY State where he discovered his love of the woods and became an accomplished outdoorsman, hunting and fishing in the Adirondack Mountains. A WWII Veteran, US Navy, Seaman First Class, he was a mechanic on supply vessels in the South Pacific. Alec worked for the former NY Central and D&H railroad and retired from the NYS Department of Health as a clerk. In retirement he was a world traveler with his wife, Mary. Destinations included the United States, Europe and South America. Alec was an active parishioner of St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Cohoes. A generous heart, he volunteered countless hours, with all avenues of fundraising. He was a member of the "R" Club, sang in the church choir and also with the Russian Orthodox Male Chorus. Alec also was a working member of the Orthodox Christian Association.

He is survived by nieces and nephews; Patricia Galligan Morse of Phoenix, AZ, Donna Galligan Doll of Schenectady, Stephen Sluti of Mechanicville, Robert (Paula) Patrician of Cohoes, Russell (Donna) Patrician of Schenectady and Melissa and Kristin Patrician.

Funeral from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ltd 105 Vliet Blvd Cohoes Friday morning, September 14 at 9:30. A Funeral Service will be held in St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, 67 Saratoga St. Friday morning at 10:00.

Interment with military honors will be in St. Nicholas RO Cemetery, Boght Corners.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4-7 pm.

A Parastas service will be held Thursday at 5:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.
