Obituary for Bernard J. "Bernie" Roy Jr.
TROY Bernard John Patrick Roy, Jr., 73, passed peacefully Monday, December 26, 2022 at Diamond Ridge in Troy.
Born and educated in Cohoes, he was the son of the late Bernard J. Roy, Sr. and Mary Gatzendorfer Roy. He had been employed for over 40 years with the City of Cohoes working in various capacities for the Cohoes D.P.W. until his retirement.
Bernie was a communicant of St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Waterford. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid walker who could often be seen strolling around town.
Bernie is survived by his children, Rebekah F. Wright of Albany, Joshua M. Barnett (Alissa) of Waterford and Aaron M. Roy of Mechanicville; by his grandson, Cameron Wright; by his siblings, Christine Hipwell (Timothy), Loreen Watrobski (late Donald), Karen Roy Jourdanais, Donald E. Roy (Holly) and Kara Edwards (James); and by his former wife, Linda Roy. Bernie is also survived by his special friend, Carole Wolff as well as numerous nieces, nephews and his many friends at Diamond Ridge in Troy. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Cheryl Knapp and his partner, Carmen Martinez.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 31, 2022 at 11:30 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 12 p.m. in St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Waterford. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Waterford.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. prior to the service.
