Obituary for Beverly A. Bissell (LaFave)

COHOES Beverly A. Bissell, 81, passed away at home Friday, September 3, 2021 surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.

Born in Hudson Falls, Beverly was the daughter of the late Ellis and Yvonne Payment LaFave. She was educated in Green Island and went on to work at the NYS Workers Compensation Board for many years until retiring in 2004.

Throughout her life, Beverly’s happiest times were always in her kitchen where her culinary skills never seemed to end. She loved to entertain! With her closest friends, she most looked forward to their weekly golf group, lunch at Babe’s Diner and the afternoons of “Hand & Foot” card games.

Beverly’s greatest enjoyment was being surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of 60 years of R. Gerald Bissell and the loving mother of William (Terry) Bissell of Waterford, David (Margaret) Bissell of Rexford, Kathleen (partner Darryl) Bissell of Saratoga Lake and the late John M. Bissell. She will be especially missed by her grandchildren, Garret Monast, Cooper Monast, Grace Bissell and Jackson Bissell. Nothing gave her more joy than when she was with her grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sister, Sharon (late John) Burns and her brothers, Larry (Mary) LaFave, Charles (Marge) LaFave, Robert (Olga) LaFave as well as many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. In addition to her parents and son, she was also predeceased by her sister, Marilyn Berlin.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 8:45 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd. and 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, Waterford. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Waterford.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday from 4-7 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Hospice Foundation, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208
