COHOES Charlanne M. “Char” Maney Humik, 71, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Wednesday April 7, 2021 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany surrounded by her loving family. She is together again with her best friend and cousin Colleen Flavin.
A lifelong resident, born in Cohoes on June 27, 1949, Char was the daughter of the late Edward J. and Mildred (Lavin) Maney and the devoted and caring wife for 47 years to Joseph E. Humik.
She received her education at St. Agnes and Cohoes High School. She was employed by Cohoes Human Resources, the former St. Michael’s Community Center, Cohoes Catholic School, Smith’s Restaurant and was a Poll Worker at election time. She was a Lifetime Member of the Polish American Association.
Char is survived by her loving children Carrie Anne DeGroff (Steven) and Joseph Kevin Humik; her brothers, James E. Maney (Evelyn) Richard G. Maney (Hanh) and deceased Kevin E. “Cal” Maney. Her greatest pleasure in life was spending time with her most cherished and loved grandchildren Michael DeGroff, Emilie DeGroff and Jace Humik. She leaves behind nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was “Aunt Char” to many.
Char enjoyed doing lottery scratch offs and spending time with family and friends at the Saratoga Race Track, parties at Bob and Carol’s, summers at Loon Lake and winters traveling to Florida with Jack and Pam. She was a people person. If you ever went anywhere with Char she would always meet someone she knew.
Funeral services will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Holy Trinity, Cohoes. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Sunday from 3-6 p.m.
A celebration of Char’s life will be held at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Char’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or a charity of your choice.
