WATERVLIET Doris H. Ziegler, 74, of 5th Ave. entered into eternal life Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Samaritan Hospital. Born in Cohoes, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Doris Connors Obzud.
Doris lived in Cohoes for most of her life. She graduated from St. Michael’s School and Keveny Memorial Academy. She had worked at Golden Crust Bakery in Cohoes, Cluett & Peabody Co. in Troy and then at Al Tech (Allegheny-Ludlum) Steel in Watervliet. Returning to school later in life, she earned her associate’s degree in accounting from HVCC at the age of 50 and was on the Dean’s List. She went on to work as an accounts payable clerk for the Albany Police Dept. until her retirement.
Doris was always a very devout Catholic who never missed weekly Mass. She was a parishioner of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Watervliet and previously had belonged to both St. Michael’s and St. Bernard’s parishes. She also was a very gifted seamstress who made wedding gowns, prom gowns and christening gowns for her children and grandchildren as well as countless gifts throughout the years. Most recently, Doris was recognized by WNYT for her tireless efforts providing homemade face-masks for those in need.
Doris’s greatest joy, aside from her family and friends, was drinking her morning coffee on her back porch while saying the rosary and feeding the birds and squirrels.
Doris was the beloved mother of Lori LaMere (Scott) of Cohoes, James Ziegler (Judith) of Watervliet, Kimberly Bunting (Thomas) of Mardela Springs, MD and April LaBounty of Clifton Park. She is also survived by her brother, Michael Obzud (late Gloria) of Cohoes, 11 grandchildren,13 great grandchildren, her best friend and cousin, Bernice Tofte as well as her feline companions Molly Bean and the late Smokey.
Doris will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 9:15 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 10 a.m. at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Watervliet.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Friday from 4-7 p.m.
