Obituary for Ellen M. Levins

GREEN ISLAND Ellen Marie Levins, 71, formerly of Green Island passed away peacefully at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes on December 26, 2020.

Ellen was born on October 27, 1949 in Troy, NY and lived most of her life in Green Island. She was predeceased by her parents, William Matthew Levins (Matt) and Ellen Grace Levins. She is survived by her cousins, William (Mary Ellen) Robinson of Cohoes and James Robinson of Denver, Colorado.

Ellen was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Church in Green Island and attended St. Joseph’s and Heatly School in Green Island where in 1960 she was the recipient of a Scholarship Award for excellence and proficiency presented by the actress Helen Hayes. Ellen graduated from Marylrose Academy and Hudson Valley Community College with a Liberal Arts degree in 1970. She was later employed by the NYS State Police in the Personnel Department.

Ellen was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed watching her favorite team, the NY Mets. She attended many Green Island Little League games where her father, Matt, was the announcer and the field is named The Matthew Levins Memorial Field. She loved doing crossword puzzles and word searches, various crafts and card games, her favorite being Skip Bo. Ellen loved animals and always had a cat in her Green Island home.

Ellen’s family would especially like to thank all the staff of Eddy Village Green in Cohoes for their many kindnesses to Ellen over the years, and in particular, to House 10, where Ellen was loved by the staff and the other elders. Also, thank you to Community Hospice of Albany County for their compassionate support to Ellen and her loved ones in recent months.

Due to the pandemic, funeral services will be private at this time. A celebration of Ellen’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ellen’s name to the Community Hospice or the Hudson-Mohawk Humane Society.
