Cohoes Genevieve Krawiec, - Genevieve "Genny" Stanaszek Krawiec, 94, of Johnston Avenue passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at her residence. Born in Cohoes, she was the daughter of the late Leon and Mary Derus Stanaszek. She was the beloved wife for 65 years to the late John F. Krawiec.
In her earlier years, "Genny" was a long-time volunteer at WMHT auctions. She was involved with the start up of the Citizen’s Party in Cohoes, serving as Mayor Jay McDonald’s secretary. She was involved in the start up of bingo at St. Michael’s Church, working tirelessly with her family and friends for many, many years. She had very fond memories of her vacations to Cape Cod, Maine, California, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Mexico and especially Poland. She was a devout Catholic, attending Mass daily after her retirement from the Watervliet Arsenal. Prior to her retirement from the Arsenal she worked for many years as a New York State employee.
She was a lifelong, dedicated member of St. Michael's Church and St. Michael's Rosary Society. She was extremely proud of her Polish heritage. She loved being around people, both hosting and being at family functions. She never went anywhere without her camera. She would go out of her way to help people in many ways, both friends and strangers. She and her daughter spent many years doing stray cat rescue. She will be missed by her beloved cat Dolly. She also loved to shop garage sales, estate sales and auctions, shooting out of the driveway early, returning many hours later never empty handed.
"Genny" is survived by her devoted daughter Mary Chris Krawiec and son-in-law Mark Peabody, her sister-in-law Helen Zdunek and many nieces and nephews. Along with her husband John, she was predeceased by her sisters Leona Kimball, Caroline Walsh and Helen Williamson.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to remember "Genny" in a special way may make a memorial contribution to St. Michael's Rosary Society or St. Michael's Church, 20 Page Street Cohoes, NY 12047.
Funeral from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ltd, 105 Vliet Blvd Cohoes Tuesday morning, January 29 at 8:30. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Michael's Church, in Cohoes Tuesday morning at 9:00.
Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery in Waterford.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Monday from 4 – 7 pm.
