Obituary for Genowefa Duda

COHOES Genowefa Duda, 93, entered into eternal life Sunday, August 28, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Poland, she was the daughter of the late Piotr and Stefania Podkowa. She immigrated to this country in 1951 and settled in Cohoes where she and her husband, Jan raised their family.

She worked for many years as a weaver at Albany International (formerly Albany Felt). She was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in Cohoes, belonged to St. Michael’s Ladies Rosary Society and was a member of the PNA. She also was an avid gardener who was known for her green thumb.

Genowefa was the wife of the late Jan Duda; the loving mother of Richard Duda (Laurie Phelps) of Mechanicville, John Duda (Carol) of Latham, Helen Holmes (late William) of Davenport, FL, Stanley Duda (Kortney) of Wynantskill and the late Michael Duda; the sister of Janina Wiercioch (Marian) of Cohoes; the sister-in-law of Viola Pludrzynski; and the grandmother of Melissa Why, Jennifer Scott, Justin, John, Karley and Kassidy Duda, and the late Jessica Steele. She is also survived by numerous great grandchildren as well as several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:15 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 11 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church, Cohoes. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Waterford.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday from 4-6 p.m.
