Obituary for George J. Macchi

COHOES George J. Macchi, 92, of Broadway, “Our Hero”, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, December 22, 2019 at Samaritan Hospital embraced by his loving family. Born in Lee, Mass., he was the son of the late John and Anna Zanella Macchi and beloved husband of the late Nancy J. Hutchinson Macchi.

George was educated in the Lee Schools and was a World War II veteran of the United States Army serving overseas. He was employed as a butcher with Food Circus in Cohoes. He was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and was recognized as one of the oldest members of the American Legion, ET Ruane Post 476. George enjoyed playing cards, playing the daily numbers, watching his favorite football team, the Dallas Cowboys and had a fondness for animal shows. George enjoyed the companionship of everyone; he was a “people person”, personified.

He is survived by his devoted children; Tracy L. (Steve) Darwak of Cohoes, Todd M. (Jessica) Macchi of Ballston Lake, Tanya E. Macchi of Waterford, Stephanie M. (Steve Miller) Hotaling of Esperance and Jason S. (Rebecca LaForest) Macchi of Cohoes, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, sister Alice Buffis of Lee Mass, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters and 3 brothers.

Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family.
