Obituary for George "Ted" Edward Wagner

COHOES George Edward “Ted” Wagner, 91, of Simmons Ave. entered into eternal rest Friday, October 8, 2021 at VanRensselaer Manor.

Born in Cohoes, he was a proud lifelong resident of the city. He was the son of the late George Byron Wager and Ruth Helen Clay Wagner and the beloved husband of Margaret Morrison Wagner who passed in 2008.

At a young age, Ted enlisted in the US Army and served in Japan where he attained the rank of Sergeant. After being discharged, Ted attended Siena College where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in business. He went on to work for over 25 years with the NYS Teachers’ Retirement System in Albany until his retirement.

Ted was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Shriners in Troy and also belonged to the Eveningstar Masonic Lodge #75 in Latham.

Ted was proud of his US Army service and citizenship. His life was characterized by his patriotism as well as his dedication to family and community. He adored his wife Margaret and the couple shared a perfect marriage together. Their home was always open to anyone.

Ted was the loving father of David E. Wagner of Clifton Park; brother of Mary Joan Griffith, Elizabeth Lynch, Ellen Hebert and the late James and Elaine Wagner; and the brother-in-law of the late James and Jean Polson. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and a large Scottish and American extended family.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes. Interment will follow with military honors in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Tuesday from 4-6 p.m.
