Obituary for Helen F. Zdunek (Krawiec)

COHOES Helen F. Zdunek, 97, formerly of Strong Pl. entered into eternal life Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Schuyler Ridge Residential Healthcare.

Born and educated in Cohoes, Helen was a lifelong resident of the city. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary Hayostek Krawiec and the wife of the late John Zdunek. In her younger years, Helen had been employed as a crossing guard for Cohoes City Schools. Always proud of her Polish heritage, she was an active communicant of St. Michael’s Church in Cohoes. She belonged to St. Michael’s Ladies Rosary Society and enjoyed polka dancing. She also loved reading, bowling and crocheting.

Helen was the loving mother of Kathleen Bartley (David) of Halfmoon, Beverly Hennessey (Gerald) of Cohoes and the late Janice Zdunek; the grandmother of Jonathan Geleta (Amy) of Clifton Park and Alyssa Hennessey (Nick Fredette) of Johnsonville; the great grandmother of John Geleta of Clifton Park; and the sister of the late John and Joseph Krawiec, Ann Perreault and Bertha Krawiec. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 12 p.m. in St. Michael’s Church, 20 Page Ave., Cohoes. Interment will follow in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Waterford.

Relatives and friends may visit at St. Michael’s Church from 11-12 prior to the Mass. Those wishing to remember Helen in a special way may make contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105

Helen’s family would especially like to thank the staff at Schuyler Ridge for their excellent care during the past 7 years that she has been a resident. They would also like to thank Dr. James O’Brien for his unfailing attention, kindness and compassion.
