Obituary for Irene E. Owen

COHOES Irene E. Owen (Williams), 83, entered into eternal life February 3, 2021.

Born in Granville, she was raised in Troy by her grandmother, Effie Williams.

Irene was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband of 34 years, Albert J. Owen and by her mother Eveline Ward and her step father, Harold Ward.

Irene is survived by her beloved daughter, JoAnne Owen (David Canfield); by her sister, Eveline Ward Sells (the late Edwin); by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Peter and Dayna Kalil and by her niece, Jamie and nephew, Mark.

During Irene’s younger years, she was employed by Commodore Cleaners in Troy. However, the majority of her life was dedicated to her husband and daughter who she always said she loved more than life itself, and she showed them that love her entire life.

After Albert’s passing, Irene decided she would occupy her time by doing something to help others, and since she always enjoyed helping the elderly, she took a job at Candlewood Asst. Living in Latham. She loved everyday she was there, and her family loved to hear her stories about her residents and how much she adored all of them. She always said that if she could, she would have brought all of them home to live with her.

Irene also had a special place in her heart for every homeless animal. She loved and spoiled all of our furry family rescues throughout the years and was predeceased by her much-loved feline companion, Buddy.

Irene was the best wife and mom a family could ever ask for, and she will be dearly missed forever.

Funeral services will be Monday at 12 p.m. in the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes. Visiting hours will be from 10:30-12 prior to the service.

Masks will be required and occupancy regulations observed.

In lieu of flowers, you can remember Irene in a special way by making a donation to your favorite animal rescue group or to the Alzheimer’s Assoc., 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, IL 60601.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks to all of the staff at Promenade Asst. Living and Memory Care for all of their hard work, dedication and care of Irene during her time there as well as their appreciation to the doctors and staff at St. Peter’s Hospital
