Obituary for John A. Hogan

COHOES John A. Hogan, 76, entered into eternal life Monday, September 6, 2021 at St. Peter’s Hospital.

Born in Cohoes to John and Rita Jones Hogan, John was a lifelong resident of the city. He was educated in Cohoes schools and at a young age he proudly served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Returning home, he worked as a furniture refinisher in the area and then painted cannons at the Watervliet Arsenal until his retirement.

John was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed bow and rifle hunting, fishing, boating, bird watching and of course, camping. He was a member of the Colonie Elks Lodge and also belonged to The American Legion and The Sportsmen’s Club of Clifton Park.

Throughout his life John cherished time with his family and especially his grandkids. He is survived by his beloved wife of 46 years, Elena French Hogan, his loving daughters, Petrina Castracani (Jack) of Cohoes and Marisa McCarthy (Lee) of Watervliet; as well as his siblings, Barbara White (Bud) of Galway and Eileen Cox of Cohoes. He is also survived by his grandchildren who he adored, Jadyn, Arianna and Zander Castracani and Elena and Charlie McCarthy. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Joyce Nadeau.

John was a selfless man who was always there for someone in need. He was loved and respected by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes. Interment will follow with military honors in Memory Gardens, Colonie.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home on Friday from 4-7 p.m.
