Obituary for Joseph J. Kosek Jr.

BALLSTON LAKE Joseph J. Kosek, Jr., 85, entered into eternal life Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Saratoga Hospital.

Born in Cohoes, Joe was the son of the late Joseph J. Kosek, Sr. and Stasia (Karwiel) Kosek. Joe was a graduate of St. Michael’s School, Christian Brothers Academy, and Siena/Russell Sage Colleges. He also served as Sergeant in the United States Marine Corp Band playing clarinet and piano.

Joe’s love of music began in elementary school where he formed his first Polka band. Joe later was band leader for The Five Rascals and most notably, The Kosek Brothers New Yorkers Orchestra for over 40 years. He was a communicant of St. Michael’s Church in Cohoes where he served as church organist and choir director for 15 years. Joe’s main occupation was the IBM Data Base Administrator for NYS B.O.C.E.S. Regional Schools for 33 years until retirement.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Emily (Mendel) Kosek; by his children, Deborah Kosek DiGrado (Joseph) of Guilderland, Joseph J. Kosek III (Michele) of Clifton Park, Natalie Cherry (Skip) of Poquoson, Virginia and Eric Kosek of Daytona, Florida; his siblings Sophie Astemborski (late Tony) of Niskayuna and Stanley Kosek (Joan) of Saratoga Springs; his grandchildren, Amanda and Kyle Cherry, Nicole DiGrado, and Allie and Jerad Kosek. He is also survived by his brother-in-law John Mendel (Linda Ross) and 5 nieces and 3 nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, April 20, 2021 at 11am at St. Michael’s Church, 20 Page Ave., Cohoes. Interment will follow with military honors in St. Michael’s Cemetery, Waterford.

Relatives and friends may visit from 9-11 am prior to the mass at the church. Masks will be required and pandemic regulations observed.
