Obituary for Joyce A. Baranski

COHOES Joyce Baranski, 81, entered into eternal life Sunday, August 15, 2021 at Samaritan Hospital.

Born in Camden, NJ to Edward and Caroline Rase Brandhurst, Joyce was raised in New Jersey and attended college in Gloucester, NJ majoring in mathematics. She met the love of her life, John W. Baranski while he was stationed as an MP at Ft. Dix, NJ and the couple were married on October 10, 1959.

Joyce and John moved to Cohoes in 1972, where they settled and opened Joyce & John’s Deli. They introduced their famous Philadelphia Cheese Steaks to the community and then established the Red Brick Pub in 1980. Joyce had worked both at the Eddy Village Green in Cohoes and later in real estate.

Joyce always attributed her long and healthy life to waking up every day with an “attitude of gratitude,” working and remaining active in her community and her steadfast commitment to family and friends. For these reasons and many others and in celebration of her 80th birthday, Oct. 5, 2019 was declared “Joyce Baranski Day” in the City of Cohoes.

Joyce was the proud mother of Jacquelyn Frederick (late Thomas) of Abilene, KS, Judith Kubik (Paul), John W. Baranski III (Michele) of Cohoes and the loving grandmother of Thomas Abel, Jr., Joshua Abel, Matthew Abel, Paul Kubik, Jr., Jason Kubik, Sarah Baranski, Emma Baranski, John W. Baranski IV, Jacob Baranski and Samuel Baranski. She is also survived by her five great grandchildren and her two nieces.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday from 4-7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Cohoes Little League, P.O. Box 652, Cohoes, NY 12047
