Obituary for Kathryn M. "Kathy" Chesterfield

COHOES Kathryn Maher Chesterfield, 89, entered eternal rest in the comfort and care of her family at home on September 2, 2022. Born in Albany, she was the daughter of the late Kyran Maher and Julia Landers Maher.

Kathy was the beloved Wife of William A., who predeceased her in 1998, loving Mother of William (Sara), Kyran (Patricia), Andrew (Deborah), Mary Kay (Donald), John (Patrice), dedicated Grandmother of 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, Sister of Patricia (Late Michael) Camarota, the late Nancy (Frank) Nigro and Aunt to many nieces and nephews.

Following her graduation of the Academy of Holy Names she earned her BS in Education from The College of Saint Rose. She began her career as a teacher for the North Colonie School District where she taught First Grade at Forts Ferry for 30 Years.

Kathy was a spirited person who built a lifetime of memories with her service to Holy Trinity Parish as a Eucharistic Minister, Sunday School Teacher, Usher and tireless volunteer. She enjoyed the company of friends, playing bridge, lunching with her fellow Golden Rose alumni and as a member of the Red Hats.

Always with a zest for life, Kathy remained active in retirement. She enjoyed water aerobics at the Cohoes Community Center, later becoming an aerobics instructor, and traveling, visiting Ireland, Rome, Alaska, Hawaii, and taking numerous trips to the West Coast where she had family and friends.

As a person of faith she was dedicated to serving others and especially her family, whom she loved – dearly.

She was a blessing throughout our lives.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 10:30 a.m. in the Church of the Holy Trinity. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes.

Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home Thursday from 4-6 p.m.
