Obituary for Marilyn A. Malo (Shields)

COHOES Marilyn Anne Malo, 88, passed away on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at home with her family by her side. She is once again reunited with her beloved husband of 64 years, Ralph J. Malo who passed in 2019.

Marilyn was born in Troy on September 23, 1934 to Anne R. Courtemanche Shields and Thomas S. Shields. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Thomas S. Shields, Jr.

She attended elementary school at Sacred Heart School in Troy and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School. She also was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Piano Conservatory. She worked for the NYS Dept of Tax & Finance for 10 years and for the City of Cohoes as a Senior Typist in the Department of Public Works for over 20 years. She enjoyed summer vacations in Atlantic City since the age of 3, going to the Saratoga Racetrack & Casino, classic movies, history and playing pinochle. She was renowned for her potato salad and chili sauce. Most of all, Marilyn loved being with her family and enjoyed all of our many holidays, picnics, birthday parties and Sunday gatherings.

She is survived by her children, Julie Phillips (Chuck), Laurie Minnick (John) and Stephen Malo (Sue), as well as her cherished grandchildren, Jennifer, Matthew, John, Andrew, Danielle, Shawn and Tyler. She also was thrilled with each and every addition to her family of her great grandchildren, Maria, Nathan, Anna, Desmond, Zachary, Connor and Jack, whom she all loved so very much.

Her family would like to express their gratitude to Community Care Hospice and her nurse, Marsha.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 9:45 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 10:30 a.m. in St. Ambrose Church, Latham. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Troy.
