Obituary for Mary Ellen Robinson (Stopera)
COHOES Mary Ellen Robinson, 68, passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 7, 2023
at Albany Medical Center after a long illness.
Born in Cohoes, Mary Ellen was a lifelong resident of the city. She graduated from
Cohoes High School in 1972 and went on to work in the daycare program at the Cohoes
Community Center for many years. Following her beloved husband Bill’s accident, she
became his full-time caretaker.
Mary Ellen always had a generous spirit and sponsored dozens of children through the
Christian Children’s Fund. She was also a strong supporter of animal rescue groups.
She was a Reiki practitioner, an avid collector but most importantly, a loving wife,
mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with all her family, especially her
grandchildren.
Mary Ellen was the daughter of Helen Keefe Stopera of Cohoes and the late Robert
Stopera; the wife of the late William F. Robinson; the loving mother of Carrie Kate
Eggleston and Carly (Jeremie) Stebbins all of Cohoes; and adoring grandmother of
Seth, Lola and Zoey Stebbins. She is also survived by her siblings, Nancy Nadeau
(Ned) of Florida, Kathy Rouche (Ralph), Robert Stopera, Jr. and Sandra Stopera all of
Cohoes as well as several nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Mary Ellen’s wishes, no funeral services will be held for her.
