Obituary for Patricia Kelly Hougens

Patricia Kelly Hougens

Our mom, Patricia Kelly Hougens, joined our brother, Shaun, in the presence of God on February 4, 2022.

Mom was born in Jersey City on April 6,1937. After a short but happy time in Kingston, her beloved parents, Stella and Henry Rohde, brought her family to the Woodbine Hotel in Palenville, New York. There she spent so many happy years with her sisters, Barbara (Ronald) Garrison and Laureen (Harry) Young, all of whom she adored. She attended ABC college in Albany and worked for IBM in Kingston.

In 1961, she married and raised a family: first in Kinston, NY; then Metairie, LA; and then in Utica, NY. She was everything to her family: PTA mom, CCD teacher, scout leader, chef, chauffeur and confidante. She made everyone feel welcome in our home. She filled our lives with family, laughter, and love.

After retiring from the USPS in 2000, she blessed us by moving to Albany to join us and our families. She treasured and was treasured by her sons-in-law, Marty and Jim.

Then the lights of her life, Lindsi (Ray), Damien and Rowan, arrived and Mom became Gran. With a heart already bursting with love, the wee ones, Ryan, Molly, and Farrah, came. What an amazing life we have all shared.

She loved her cousins, Bernice Roberts and Ronnie Kuligoski, like siblings, and she took great joy and pride in her nieces and nephews whom she held so close to her heart. Her life was enriched with new friendships and friendships that have lasted a lifetime.

As her daughters, Lori Kehoe and Kelli Fennen, we ask that you join us in celebrating the incredible life of our incredible mom.

The Christian mass will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, February 16 at Sacred Heart Church, 710 NY 32 A, in Palenville, NY. Immediately following the internment at Palenville Rural Cemetery, we will have a celebration of mom’s life at her home.
