Obituary for Richard J. Wichtowski

CLIFTON PARK Richard J. Wichtowski, 85, of Walnut Dr. passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at his residence. Born in Elmira, he was the son of the late Leo and Dorothy Kosloski Wichtowski.

Dick was educated in Elmira schools and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo and his master’s degree in education from SUNY Albany. He later returned to SUNY Albany and received his certification as a guidance counselor. For over 32 years he worked at the Shenendehowa School District as a science teacher and then as a guidance counselor until retiring in 1994.

Dick was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Crescent for many years. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed playing darts at both Ravenswood and the Rusty Nail. He liked to play the guitar and listen to Irish folk music. He also was a history buff who was especially interested in the Civil War and WWII.

Dick was known for his great sense of humor and sharp wit, but he will be most remembered as being a loving husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary Cunniff Wichtowski; by his loving children, John A. Wichtowski (Lauri) of Deep River, CT, Lynn A. Monshower (Braden) of Ballston Spa and Eric M. Wichtowski of Clifton Park; his adored grandchildren, Katie Anton, Ryan Wichtowski, Alicia Wichtowski and Zachary Monshower; his great grandsons, Walker and Jay Wichtowski as well as his great granddaughter who will be arriving soon, Dorothea Anton. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Edward Cunniff, his sister-in-law, Kathleen Priscott and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, May 12th at 11:15 a.m. from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 12 p.m. in St. Mary’s Church, Crescent. Interment will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes.
Relatives and friends may visit at the funeral home from 10 – 11:15 a.m. prior to the Mass.
