Obituary for Roland J. "Ron" Hinkell Sr.

CLIFTON PARK Roland J. “Ron” Hinkell Sr., 85, passed away peacefully at his home in the loving care of family on October 31, 2021.

He was born on February 22, 1936 to Emile and Mariann Hinkell. He was a devoted father and grandfather and enjoyed being with his family and many friends. He is survived by his loving children, Tammy and Roland, Jr.; by his three grandchildren, Cassandra, Brandon and Ryan as well as his partner, Joy Reynolds.

Ron served in the US Navy where he managed the ship engines while traveling around the world and was a French / English interpreter. Ron was honorably discharged from active service in 1962 and went on to serve by providing affordable homes for veterans. Ron would be the first person community members would call if they needed help. Ron always put the needs of others before his own and was a good friend and supporter to many. He enjoyed telling stories about his childhood and his time in the Navy. He was also known for his homemade popcorn and pancakes, his savvy dancing and roller-skating skills and his ability to build and repair anything (in his authentic way). He will be missed dearly and remembered often.

Ron will be laid to rest with military honors Thursday, November 4, 2021 at 12 p.m. at the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.

Those wishing to remember Ron in a special way can make contributions to your local Veterans Association.
