Obituary for Stephen Edward Fecura Sr.

COHOES Stephen Edward Fecura Sr., was born in Cohoes, New York on July 3, 1937 and passed away peacefully at the Albany Medical Center surrounded by his loving family on Thanksgiving morning after a long battle with a chronic heart condition. In the final days of his life he continued to have humor and love for his family despite the challenges he faced with his medical condition.

Steve met the love of his life while at Cohoes High School in 1954, Linda Ann Tusch and upon graduation in 1955, he entered the United States Air Force as an Airman serving overseas in England as a switchboard repair technician for 3-years. His unwavering love for Linda endured the tyranny of distance across the vast Atlantic Ocean and upon return to the United States in his final year of military service he tied the knot officiating his profound love for Linda in 1959. The newly weds on the day of their marriage flew back to Crest View, Florida where Steve was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base. Despite not having much money, the 6-months spent in Florida with no automobile and living 30-miles from the base to have cheaper rent only solidified their commitment and love. Upon Steve's completion of his military service with an Honorable Discharge, the inseparable couple relocated to Cohoes, New York to begin a family and career. Steve initially was employed stacking tires at a Troy Tire Company and shortly thereafter was employed by Ford in Green Island. Always looking to better himself and provide for his family, he took a risk with a significant pay cut to take an entry level position at Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation where over a career that spanned over 37 years, he was promoted to the Manager, Customer Service Center and Supervisor, Meter Reading for the Capital District Area. Upon his retirement in 1994, he swore to never touch a keyboard or wear a three piece suit again. Steve and Linda spend many summer vacations in the Wildwood, New Jersey area with their children Stephen and Tina. Living in the 70's brought a trip to Freeport, Bahamas and many visits to Las Vegas, where they enjoyed the World's Entertainment Capital. In 1983, Steve and Linda did a 1-month trip across the United States in a customized van covering over 9500 miles. In 1995, with his retirement, the inseparable couple became "Snow Birds" in Clearwater, Florida and Steve coined the name "Flor-Yorkers" with business cards listing both their New York and Florida contact information. Steve and Linda were very competitive in the Shuffle Board League and for over 26 years continued to enjoy the Florida sunny skies. Steve enjoyed fishing with his son and daughter on the Mohawk River, traveling to Canada, deep sea fishing in the Atlantic Ocean, and taking a 2-day road trip to the Walt Disney World theme park in Orlando, Florida in 1972. Steve and Linda continued to enjoy the excitement of Gaming and frequently traveled to Las Vegas, Reno, Atlantic City, Biloxi, Foxwoods, Lake Tahoe and many other Casinos across the Continental USA.

Steve is survived by his 62 years married wife, Linda Ann (Tusch) Fecura, his son, Stephen E. Fecura Jr., his daughter, Tina M. Kane, his son-in-law, Kevin M. Kane, his five grandchildren, Stephen E. Fecura III, Shawn M. Fecura, Drew M. Kane, Devan L. Kane, and Gabrielle A. Fecura, and his sibling, Helen (Lou) Kromp. He was predeceased by the passing of his parents, Stephen Fecura and Almira A. Fecura as well as his siblings Richard R. Fecura and Rose M. Westerman.

Stephen Edward Fecura Sr's presence and memories will forever continue to live on with his surviving family and friends.
