Obituary for Stephen R. Walsh

TRINITY, FL Stephen R. Walsh, 80, died at home surrounded by his loving family on October 1, 2021.

He was the son of the late William and Veronica (Morrissey) Walsh and husband of the late Mary (Stackrow) Walsh. Steve attended Cohoes High School, Siena College and received an Associate’s Degree from Hudson Valley Community College. He served in the U.S. Army with the 82nd Airborne for three years.

Steve was a devoted police officer for the Albany Police Department for 33 years, retiring as Lieutenant.

A devout catholic, he was a parishioner over the years at St. Rita’s Church in Cohoes, St. Francis The Chapel in various locations and St. Peter the Apostle in Trinity. He also was an avid sportsman who enjoyed golfing, skiing, biking and basketball.

Steve was a devoted son, father, grandfather, cousin, police officer and friend – loved by all who knew him. Steve was generous to everyone who entered his life. His kind heart was always on display, helping and caring for friends, family and stray animals he took in. He had a special place in his heart for his dog, Spot, who brought tears to his eyes whenever he reminisced about their time together.

Steve is survived by his daughter, Erica Kupic, son, Matt Kupic, adored grandchildren, Allie, Matthew, Jack and Brooke. His sweetheart, Diane White and cherished cousins, Julianne Furlong – AnnaRae and Jack; Laurie Kuhne – Emily and Dean; Edmond Galarneau – Adam; Carol Tousignant, Lisa Soloyna, and Pam Boisvert. Dear friends, Danny Carpenter, Gary Ethier and Edna Sparks. In addition to his parents and wife, Steve was predeceased by his cousin, Donna Galarneau.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass Saturday, October 16, 2021 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Michael’s Church, 20 Page Ave., Cohoes, NY 12047.
