Obituary for William F. Robinson

COHOES William F. Robinson, 74, of N. Third St. entered into eternal rest peacefully Saturday, March 6, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Cohoes to George and Frances Kowalczyk Robinson, Bill was a lifelong resident of the city. He graduated from Christian Brothers Academy in Albany and received his bachelor’s degree from Canisius College in Buffalo. In 1968 he decided to join the Peace Corps and was stationed in Brazil until returning home in 1971. He then went on to earn his master’s degree in special education from the College of St. Rose which enabled him to work as a counselor for many years at the NYS Office of Children and Family Services until his retirement.

One of Bill’s greatest loves in life was running. He was a master runner who belonged to the Hudson-Mohawk Road Runners Club for many years. He had been inducted into their hall of fame and in 2003 the Annual Masters 4K Race was renamed in his honor. Bill also enjoyed coaching track at the former Keveny Memorial Academy and was a founding member as well as a former board member of Residential Opportunities, Inc. in Cohoes.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Mary Ellen Stopera Robinson; by his loving daughters, Carrie Kate (Benjamin) Eggleston and Carly (Jeremie) Stebbins all of Cohoes; by his brother, James Robinson of Denver, CO and by his adored grandchildren, Seth, Lola and Zoey Stebbins. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Helen Keefe Stopera as well as his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law.

Due to the pandemic no services will be held at this time.

Those wishing to remember Bill in a special way may make contributions to Warriors on Wheels, 230 Green St #3, Albany, NY 12202 or the Community Hospice Foundation, 310 S. Manning Blvd., Albany, NY 12208.

Bill’s family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to Team One Care aides, Nicole and Meli; his former aides Hopie and Tahira; his doctor Kevin Costello; his visiting nurse Kristina; his hospice nurse Mary Beth; his counselors Debbie and Jeff, and the rest of the Community Hospice team.
