Obituary for Gregory Soroka

Mechanicville Gregory Soroka, - Gregory Soroka, 79, of Gladstone Circle died Saturday September 29, 2018 at Samaritan Hospital surrounded by his loving family. Born in Poland he was the son of the late Prokop and Stefania Buranicz Soroka. He came to this country in 1957.

Gregory had retired early from the General Electric Co. in Schenectady where he had worked for 33 years. He was employed by Active Industries and then sought independent consulting with Gerome Company. He was a veteran of the US Army. A gentleman farmer, he operated the family farm while still working his full time job. He enjoyed fixing cars, tractors and other farm machinery. He especially enjoyed taking his children and later his grandchildren on tractor, lawn mower and hay wagon rides on the farm.

Survivors include his devoted wife of 50 years Janina "Nina" Osuchowska Soroka and his loving children Anna Parke (Jack) of Westwood, NJ, Daniel Soroka (Jody) of West Chester, PA, Andrew Soroka (Stefanie) of West Henrietta and Sandra Soroka of Troy. He is the brother of Maria Kopyscianski (Jaroslaw) of Long Island and the late John Soroka and brother in law of Maria Soroka of Mechanicville. He is the proud grandfather of Tanner, Madeline, Liam and Aiden. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews as well as his grand cats Buzz and Charlie.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 9:30 am from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, 105 Vliet Blvd., Cohoes and at 10 am at St. Peter and St. Paul Church, Cohoes. Interment will be in St. Peter and St. Paul Cemetery, Waterford.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-7 pm. A Panakhyda service will be held at 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
