Obituary for Dorothy Lavigne

Halfmoon Dorothy Lavigne, - Dorothy Jacon Lavigne, 89, passed away at her residence on Thursday, December 6, 2018 after a brief illness. Born in Cohoes, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Catherine Smolen Jacon and beloved wife of the late Francis J. Lavigne.

Dorothy attended St. Michael's School, Catholic Central High School and Albany State Teachers College. She retired from General Electric Silicone Products in 1989 after 25 years of service. Dorothy was a regular communicant of St. Mary's Church, in Crescent. Dorothy and her husband were founding members of the Halfmoon Senior Center. She was also a regular attendee at the Cohoes Community Center Senior Swim Program and participated in GE Silcone and Norton Company retiree functions.

She is survived by her beloved children, Catherine (the late James) Spain of Columbia, MD, Thomas (Sheryl) of Nashua, NH, Richard (Cecilia Broady) of Duanesburg and Elizabeth (Lester) McDonald of Dalton, PA, her cherished grandchildren Mark and Jacob Spain, and Megan McDonald. She is also survived by two loving siblings: Henrietta (Harold) O'Grady of Halfmoon and the Honorable Robert (Sandra) Jacon of Pittstown. Dorothy is survived by many cousins and was Ciocia to several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Frank.

Funeral from the Fitzgerald Funeral Home, Ltd 105 Vliet Blvd Monday morning at 8:15 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church in Crescent Monday morning at 9 a.m.

Interment will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Waterford.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Sunday 2-5 p.m.

The family of Dorothy wishes to thank the staff of Community Hospice of Saratoga County and her neighbors and friends for their assistance during her illness.
